Why Me?

I don't have Type 1.  My two boys don't either.  Indeed, they're both blessed with wonderful health. My wife, Fabi, and her family - all clear too!

I had to learn about Type 1. And the thought of 'never having a day off' (from the disease) resonated with me. Startup life is a hard slog and we rarely get a day off...and sometimes I complain. Not now.  I'm done complaining.

Though I was not personally connected to Type 1 I didn't have to look far once I became familiar with the disease.  Right there, every Thu and Sun I watched one of Reef's (my oldest son) mates, on the soccer field, living through life with Type 1.  He seemed as happy as ever, much like the other 5 year olds.  His parents, for now, it's their burden.  And I can not imagine it. The worry. The needles. The monitoring. The permanency.  Never a day off.

As a father, I am trying to help them, and parents like them, who worry every day about insulin highs and lows. And about whether their kids will be rushed to the ER at any moment.

Let's help stop the worry.  Let's give them a day off. It's within our reach.

OUR MISSION

As many as 3 million Americans live with Type 1 Diabetes. What's more is that each year another 15,000 children will be diagnosed with T1D and the associated health care costs for Type 1 Diabetics in the U.S. reach over $14.9 billion, according to research conducted by JDRF.

I have been nominated to be a spokesperson for The ONE Group, a group of 25 young professionals in the metro-Atlanta area with a common goal, finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. We are working very hard to spread the word and raise funds for JDRF's Georgia Chapter.

The incredible advancements in medical science and technology that make living with T1D easier are a result of fundraising efforts, the famous walks that take place around the country, and YOUR donations!

Together, with your help and generosity, we can raise the money needed to educate the families who are new to T1D, fund the ever important research and ultimately find a CURE for T1D.

Please join my team, make a donation and spread the word! Or purchase a ticket to our fabulous cocktail party, The ONE Party this November in Buckhead, Atlanta. Join us for a night of glamour and fun to raise awareness and spread the word about this amazing cause. Let's find a CURE!

No donation is too small! Thank you for visiting my page and supporting The ONE Group and JDRF.

ABOUT JDRF

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D.

As the largest charitable supporter of T1D research, JDRF is currently sponsoring $530 million in scientific research in 17 countries. In 2012 alone, JDRF provided more than $110 million to T1D research. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. In 2012 Forbes magazine named JDRF one of its five All-Star charities, citing the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness.
