ABOUT JDRF

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D.

As the largest charitable supporter of T1D research, JDRF is currently sponsoring $530 million in scientific research in 17 countries. In 2012 alone, JDRF provided more than $110 million to T1D research. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. In 2012 Forbes magazine named JDRF one of its five All-Star charities, citing the organization’s efficiency and effectiveness.

I am honored to have the opportunity to help spread awareness of what type 1 diabetes (T1D) is, how it affects around 30,000 people a year and the progress that is being made in finding a cure!

You may be wondering..."what does Colby know about T1D? Why does she care?"  To speak frankly, I didn't know much about T1D until a few weeks ago...and I'm still learning...a lot.  However, I have met some really awesome people that are affected by it and it seems only right to join in spreading the word and help to raise money for this great organization.

There is no cure for T1D and many children and adults are forced to live with it while trying to maintain as normal of a life as possible.  That's hard enough without T1D, isn't it?!  Unfortunately, it can hit you unexpectedly and require you to live a life of constant insulin injections on a daily basis.  Did you know:
  • A person's current diet and lifestyle have nothing to do with the start of TD1
  • Without continuous monitoring and testing of one's blood sugar, people with TD1 are at risk of low and high blood sugar reactions, which can be life threatening
  • Other life altering events that can come along with diabetes are stroke, amputation, high-risk pregnancy and blindness to name a few.
My hope is that you'll join me in raising money for JDRF and consider attending this fall's ONE Party on November 7th.
